Bring in adequate income to abandon your day job
Want to start a blog and bring in adequate income to abandon your day job? Then here’s a few pointers to be mindful of before you take the plunge. From my own experience blogging is at times a complicated beast, but I have learnt to embrace its more endearing aspects and to look on the positives more than the negatives.
Myths about blogging and Internet Marketing
There are a lot wild claims on the Internet about earning big; Riches are made overnight! Earn a Hundred Thousand dollars a month and on and on.
A few realities about blogging
Perhaps only less than one percent of people will ever make it big online from blogging.
What a terrifying statistic LESS THAN 1% it’s kinda hard to believe don’t you think? But with statistics like that it’s no wonder that a lot of bloggers who originally started a blog to generate an income give up. The sad truth is that not everyone is cut out for this type of income generation. You could draw the same parallels with the real world of business, because if you’re going to start a business whatever it is, you acknowledge you have competition, and this isn’t any more dissimilar in the online world of blogging.
So bearing all this in mind it stands to reason not to abandon your job, NOT YET anyhow. If you really want to break into the blogging phenomenon and make substantial earnings then unless you have a head start on everyone else then you’re going to have to learn your trade. Before you take the plunge take in to consideration the task or tasks that lay ahead of you: There are a multitude of skills that you’ll have to acquire if you want to succeed.
Below is a list of just a few of the essentials needed to accomplish success from blogging.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) The Biggy; if the search engines can’t find you…. you know the rest!
Communication methods: email marketing, Auto responders, social networking, commenting
Web Applications: all the technical issues like FTP, Redirects, Domain hosting and loads more.
Comprehending Affiliate programs, Joint Ventures, Traffic generation, Advertising
Business models and strategies, product conception, Private label, Resell Rights
And the list carries on and on…..
Take a Deep Breath
Please don’t get put off, there are ways to approach these tasks in a consistent manner. You’ll have to have patience, commitment and staying power. You’ll need to get involved in every aspect of the Internet from blogging regularly to networking and affiliate marketing. If you have the resourcefulness to fund outsourcing then this is capital, but you’ll still need to do your research to pick the right people for the job.
Learn Your Trade
I’ve said numerous times before that it’s better to tackle one job at a time, what a lot of Internet Marketers and bloggers find is that they take on to many programs or tasks simultaneously and finish up going nowhere. “Multiple streams of income” how many times have you heard that phrase. When I first began blogging I was launching a new blog almost weekly, but I soon found that I was working too hard and just couldn’t keep up.
As a consequence of this I now only operate half a dozen blogs and most of my time is now involved on this blog, the rationality being that I prefer to build this blog up to be among the better sources for information to people that would like to learn about Internet Marketing. I clearly still have a long way to go but I’m in it for the long haul. One thing’s for certain the journey has been enormously educational and rewarding, I’ve learnt many hard lessons along the way. But I know as my knowledge and understanding develops that I’ll succeed and flourish.
Build Relationships
Another matter to bear in mind is to communicate and build bridges with your competitors, see them as an asset not a rival. Eventually you’ll come out trumps and enhance your brand image by building up credibility and trust.
Make a Plan and plot your Strategies
Just like any business concern that you’d consider taking on in the real world, you don’t just rush in without thinking, and there’s no difference online. You’ll definitely make errors along the way and you may well not last the course. Don’t take any of these get rich quick schemes or overnight success stories to earnestly. Having a passion for your chosen field is one big advantage as contrary to someone who finds the daily tasks mundane and a slog. Always anticipate ways to improve and add value for your readers and keep abreast with the changing trends of the Internet.
This is by no means a full explanation of blogging but more of a condensed description in my own words. Please feel free to include your thoughts by leaving a comment.

I am so appreciative of your candidness in this article. While there are many blogging success stories on the internet, none of them came without hard work, false starts and stops and blood, sweat and tears.
It’s refreshing to have someone tell the truth about what is to be expected in the quest to have a successful, income producing blog. Your honestly sharing your blogging experiences lets us know the real deal. And, that is valuable to the rest of us.
Thanks so much for sharing and keep up the good work. I’ll be checking back often to learn even more from your own experiences.

Consider adding what perhaps the most important point of internet marketing: usability. Jacob Nielsen’s famous useit.com is a fantastic resource.
(BTW, check his research and advice on the use of underlining.)

Hello Jimmy and welcome to Web-Work At Home,
By usability I take it you mean using the many resources on the web for IM? Any way yes I do make use of many as you say usability resources lol. I will check out your suggestion about underlining. If your suggestion is in relation to SEO then I try to mix it up a bit, which means sometimes I use underline and sometimes bold format. It’s all about drawing the readers eyes to the text. Thanks for the comment

Very good article. I shake my head when products are promoted that claim that anyone can make hundreds of thousands of dollars blogging or in affiliate marketing. Especially if there are large expenses to get the product and to get your business up and running. Taking on that much risk is a bad ideal in my opinion.

Hello,
Sure you can spend thousands on buying information products and get nowhere, but Internet Marketing is without doubt one of the most cost effective ways to generate an income. It’s just going at it the right way and choosing the right program. Premium IM programs can be a good choice because it makes you focus more on the things that matter. If you’re referring to a product launch then yes I agree it can cost you.

I started a business blog about 6 months ago. I had no idea what an education this would be. Building the blog was easy compared to marketing the blog and moving up the rankings. I understand now, what a challenge this will be. If there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow it will be well worth it.

Hello Rich, Welcome to Web-Work At Home
I agree on the building part, although keeping the content fresh and interesting is a challenge at times. It’s all about your work ethic; if you are prepared to get stuck in then the rewards will come. I know for sure that there is a pot of gold over the rainbow; the only problem is that there are too many Gurus feeding off it, lol
It’s your time to reap the rewards, Thanks for the comment

I’m one of the new aspiring online money makers. I think one reason why new comers leave early is because they have not prepared themselves at the possible events that may occur. One simple example is not seeing any growth or a minimal progress in a program that they’ve expected to bring them a steady income. Before journeying into making money online, I spent 2 months educating myself about everything that I needed to know about the internet. 5 months have passed and I’m still learning new things everyday.
My hope is to continuously see my slow progress steadily climb the ladder. If it will take me a year to wait for that financial target I’ve been desiring, then all I can do is be patient about it.
It’s nice to have bloggers like you encourage and uplift those that need encouragements and reminders.

Hi Jared and welcome to Web-Work At Home
I think I can safely say that I was one of those newcomers, and I went through the exact same issues. The thing is you are just not prepared enough for the vastness of the Internet, advice comes thick and fast from all directions and it can be quite a job to keep your focus tuned. For me the Internet is the bees’ knees, it never fails to amaze me how many new opportunities keep popping up. And if you can pin just one of those opportunities down then you have a real chance of success.
Thanks for your comment,

How do you feel about the affiliate guys that claim $10,000 a day? Those guys seem like the biggest liars.

@acai supplements,”Aint that the truth!
But it all comes down to what and who you believe. There are so many scammers and donkeys out there, and it can be confusing to a lot of new starts.
